Stop Screwing Yourself and Get The Life You Want

Ya Gotta be Willing to Take the Hits

[I]t ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where ya wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that. Until you start believing in yourself, ya ain't gonna have a life. – Rocky Balboa to his son, Rocky, Jr. in Rocky Balboa (2006)

Those are strong words from a father to his son.

Now, most of us aren’t getting punched in the head like Rocky, and we aren’t, hopefully, in any battles like Rocky was in his last movie. But we do get hit. . . sometimes more than we’d like. (Okay, always more than we want.)

So my question to you is this: Can you take the hits?

When things don’t go your way, when you make a mistake, when you lose an account or two, when you lose a job, or when someone disappoints you, do you take the hit and come back? Do you get back up? I am not saying that we all don’t get knocked down and sometimes stay down for a while. That’s okay, as long as it isn’t down and out. Permanent.

Sometimes life can be hard. Sometimes it isn’t fair. Sometimes it’s just our own fears hitting us, knocking us down. We need to confront those fears, saying, “I know this feeling. It is my fear and I can and will move through it towards my goal.”

When we can accept what is and keep moving forward, we grow. If you get hit, get up and keep moving forward. Rocky did it, and so can we.

If you don’t believe me, let Rocky tell you. Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfMKE5b1DyA

You will Find A Way.
