One thousand, five hundred. This is the number of times then would-be actor Sylvester "Sly" Stallone was told "No!" That's right. He heard 1500 "No's" while going from place to place, agent to agent in New York City, looking for acting jobs. 1500 "no's" before he got a bit part in a movie. And, if the rejection wasn't enough, here's some of the comments he heard:"Hey! You look dumb....You talk funny....No one will hire you....You look like a thug....Find another career."

Did that deter Sly? NO! He kept going back, and many times to agents who had already dismissed him. Sly had a vision. His vision was to make movies that would entertain and inspire people. He decided this while he was in college in Miami. So he moved to NYC and began his pursuing a career as an actor. He was out of work, had no money, and had to sell his wife's jewelry to pay the rent. (Guys, this is NOT a good idea.) He even sold his dog Butkus. (Remember his dog Butkus? He was in Rocky.)

So, what's the point? Well, how many of us quit after one or two "No's"? How many of us will hang in to get the third "No"? How many people stop before they even get the first rejection? If you are selling a product, service, idea, or yourself, how many "No's" will it take to stop you.? What do you do? Do you stop? Do you regroup for the next siege? Do you sharpen you skills? Do you get new information and try again? Do you call back next week, month or year? Or do you quit? If you are like most people, the first one will stop you. Most people don't like to hear "No."

Here are a few important tips.

  • Tip #2: Keep going back.
  • Tip #3: Change or adjust your strategy.
  • Tip #4: Go back again.
